More food ahead

This is an overdue post.

Among the reasons I like to take the coastal road when balik kampong is that I could stop at all the food stalls along the way. Passing through Kemaman, I would detour to Kuala Kemaman and join the crowd for Sata and Otak-Otak.

When we went balik kampong last, Lizzie and I decided to sample the Bubur Nasi and Mee Chalong.

Simplistic taste. But absolutely delish!

A glutton in Jakarta

We were contemplating places to eat on my last buka puasa in Jakarta; we shared a takeout of Nasi Liwet (not to be mistaken for Liwat) and Nasi Goreng Kambing served with Sate Kambing, and ordered Tauhu Telor as accompaniment the day before and were thinking of something different this time.

I would be happy with roadside takeouts haven't sampled Pecel Lele which was on offering at almost every stall, but my travelling companion was rather fussy. So, a Sundanese we had, in a well-air-conditioned resto where the waiters donned their traditional gear complete with songkok and kain pelikat and Pengat Pisang was complimentary and ready on the table when we arrived.

I resisted Es Alpukat. But there was a variety of sambal to choose from the menu and I settled for Sambal Mangga to go with the Pepes Ayam and assortment of dish to satisfy the glutton in me. Good decision.

Feasting melons for breaking fast

I don't know what you call it, but in my household it is known as Timun Susu. It must be in the melon family having the same texture as honey dew but with much bland taste. My mom would grate or cube some nissae (or gula melaka to the rest of the nation) and sprinkle over cut timun susu and we would eat it with joy. I saw a lot of them being sold on the streets of Jakarta when I was there last week.

So, on the second day of my trip, before we left for iftar of Cumi-cumi Bakar and Es Alpukat (among other things) we had a melon feast of Timun Susu or Timun Suri in Indo-speak, sprinkled with palm sugar, together with rock melon and watermelon.

More foodie entries to come. Winks.
